Technical Sales Engineer

What we are looking for:
As a Technical Sales Engineer at Stem / AlsoEnergy you will serve as the primary technical contact for the customer and internal Sales representative. You will bring years of solar, storage, or utility industry experience to our team to guide our customers and Sales team to:
1. Understand project requirements, scope, and division of responsibility
2. Review estimates and write technical proposals (for projects or portfolios)
3. Coordinate with Engineering to ensure timely and accurate solution delivery
Through the entire process, from initial inquiry to Engineering hand-off, you will act as the technical customer liaison. This role will support both PV and Storage projects across the Utility (LGIA) and Commercial and Industrial (C&I) customers. If you enjoy customer interaction, are technically minded, and have a strong instrumentation and controls (I&C) or renewable energy operations background this could be the ideal role for you.
Responsibilities:
- Support the Sales team in all technical aspects attending customer meetings as needed
- Appropriately respond to and manage all tasks (referred to as TSRs) assigned to you inside internal platforms keeping the internal Sales team informed on status and estimated delivery at a regular interval
- Elicit project requirements by interfacing with customers, understanding design documentation including single-line drawings (SLDs), site layouts, Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), Interconnect Agreements (IAs), and reactive power / load flow studies
- Interface with Engineering to ensure the solution meets the customer requirements
- For C&I projects, review estimates written by the Sales team to ensure accurate equipment selection and fully scoped professional services are included for Engineering
- For LGIA projects and Portfolio Aggregations, write technical customer facing proposals with a clear scope of work prior to PO acceptance
- Schedule and host project hand-off meetings with internal teams responsible for scope execution including Engineering and Product Management as applicable
- Maintain awareness of changing customer deadlines and interface with Project Management to ensure expectations are exceeded
- Build strong, lasting customer relationships, and advocate internally for accurate on-time solution delivery
- Identify gaps and interface with Engineering, Product Management, and the customer to drive resolution
- Help to define and refine internal processes
- Identify new product opportunities and bring them to the Product Management department for complete scoping
- Write and publish application notes and white papers
- Stay aware of industry trends and share information with the Stem / AlsoEnergy teams
- Attend industry trade shows and events
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
We are looking for a driven, self-motivated individual who relentlessly identifies and fills gaps by utilizing their technical background to produce customer-centric results. The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Prefer Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or other applicable technical degree (candidates with technical renewables-focused job experience will also be considered)
- Minimum 4 years of experience required in the solar, storage, or utility industry
- Experience writing technical proposals and delivering customer presentations required
- Familiarity with SCADA, PLC based control systems required
- Demonstrated experience interpreting technical system design packages
- Practiced in managing a complex project queue through the Sales lifecycle following up with the customer and coworkers when appropriate
- Excel in collaborating with a team to design technical solutions and seek out answers when a Product is not yet defined, but the industry / market has a need
- Background in troubleshooting or designing Fiber and Ethernet field networks preferred
Work Environment:
- Office Setting, primarily in cubicles (remote as applicable)
- Travel by car, air, train on occasion
- Moderate to high noise levels (i.e. business office with computers, phone, printers, moderate traffic)
- Ability to sit or stand (standing desk provide upon request) at a computer terminal for an extended period
Physical Demands:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate (talk/sign/type/write) and operate a computer, telephone (or alternative), keyboard (or typing device), etc.
- Regular, predictable availability is required (Eastern, Central, Mountain, or Pacific time zones)
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work.
- Ability to uphold the stress of traveling

Salary Range:$100,000.00 - 125,000.00
Travel: 20-40%
