Q CELLS Enable is the EPC branch of Qcells for the Commercial and Industrial market. Our mission is to be a world class designer and installer of large-scale PV and ESS systems throughout the US. We are based in NYC. Our position as a leading module manufacturer means we are able to offer end to end solutions for project developers. We are expanding our offerings and have several open positions currently.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Sr. Electrical Engineer (Solar) will be responsible for the technical aspect of Utility and Commercial, solar energy projects. This position provides expertise to the Engineering, Sales, Project Mangement, Construction, Planning and Finance departments to ensure successful design, procurement, installation, and commissioning of renewable energy projects. The Sr. Electrical Engineer provides subject matter expertise regarding electrical, technology, and software.
This position reports to the Sr. Engineering Manager. This position is located in Manhattan, New York, and the ideal candidate will be within commutable distance to this location.
Compensation: $120,000-140,000 (based on experience) + bonus
Responsibilities
- Responsible for leading and coordinating all technical aspects of utility coordination including; single line and three-line drawings, plan and elevation drawings, general arrangement and site layout, relay protection and control requirements, grounding systems
- Supporting equipment sourcing efforts, value engineering, planning & tracking project design reviews, quality control/quality assurance, and contractor management.
- Provide oversight and reviews of deliverables in the proposal/bid phase including: conceptual design engineering and BOM, preparing proposal technical specifications; develop assumptions, clarifications, and exceptions, Sourcing for vendor quotations.
- Coordinate with operations team members for final commissioning.
- Create and maintain excel calculators, design standards, and best practices for electrical system design.
- Perform arc flash and short circuit analysis for DER projects up to 10 MW.
- Oversee design submittal and equipment approval for all medium voltage interconnections.
- All other assignments and special projects, as requested by Management.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Basic understanding electricity markets and utility bill analysis.
- Experience performing system analysis using SKM, PSS/E, ETAP.
- Familiarity with energy storage modeling software (Energy Toolbase, STEM, Geli, Homer).
- Strong AutoCAD skills including creating blocks and detail drawings.
- Working knowledge of battery system sizing, equipment selection, auxiliary loads sizing, circuit protection, conductor sizing and selection for LV/MV, grounding design, lighting protection systems.
- Working knowledge of SCADA design (Modbus, DNP3, DERMS, etc)
- Strong understanding of NEC and NESC requirements and implications on system design, interconnection, and permitting.
- Knowledge of IEEE and IEC standards.
- Effective communication skills and ability to lead a team.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, preferred.
- Professional Engineering license, preferred.
- Minimum of 5-8 years of electrical design experience.
- Minimum 5-8 years of commercial/industrial PV design experience and installation process.
- Proven track record for design utility approved interconnection schemes.
- Previous exposure to energy storage project development, interconnection, and permitting processes; cost estimating; construction schedules; EPC contract terms and technical exhibits is desirable but not essential.
- Demonstrated experience with managing projects through entire construction life cycle, required.
- Organized, detail-oriented, with ability to multi-task and meet deadlines, required.
- Excellent ability to communicate among construction, technical and non-technical personnel, both internally and outside the company, required.
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving and dynamic environment.
