POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Director of Community Solar and Storage will lead the strategic development and management of large-scale solar and storage project opportunities across the United States. This position also involves policy and regulatory analysis and additional executive responsibilities. The role is pivotal in providing high-level expertise and managing a growing community-scale project development team. The candidate will work from our San Francisco office and requires flexibility to travel up to one-fifth of the year.
Responsibilities
- Community Solar and Storage Market Management (60%):
- Guide an expanding team as they identify, assess, and respond to community solar programs and similar project development opportunities.
- Direct outreach to utilities, regulators, and other relevant organizations.
- Lead bilateral discussions and negotiations to secure contracts.
- Oversee the drafting of RFP response materials for power marketing opportunities. Be the architect of workflow in early-stage potential project analysis and documentation.
- Oversee workload, training, data sources, process, documentation, protocol, and market segment specifics for the team of up to as many as 10 full-time equivalents.
- Policy & Regulatory Analysis Management (30%):
- Maintain industry relationships, identify market trends, track policy developments, evaluate business strategies, and screen competitor offerings to create profitable business opportunities for the company.
- Develop original political and market intelligence.
- Define market pricing expectations with internal and external audiences.
- Direct research on and project-level implementation of regional/state-level solar/battery incentives, including regulatory filings and legislative initiatives.
- Additional Responsibilities (10%): Perform further executive duties as needed.
Required Qualifications
- BA or BS, ideally in a relevant field such as electrical or civil engineering.
- At least 15 years in solar and/or other clean energy technology and project development, ideally in commercial/industrial and/or community-scale systems.
- Ideally 10 or more years in other relevant fields such as semiconductors or environmental management fields.
- Experience in general management, external-facing, and policy-relevant roles, including managing groups of up to 40 people.
Preferred Qualifications
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of the latest trends and regulations in clean energy technology.
- Proven track record in leading large teams and complex projects.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
