About this role:
At Heliogen we are using technology to cost-effectively replace fossil fuels and solve the world’s CO2 problem. We are looking for a Senior Buyer – Indirect to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to help fight climate change. The purpose of this position is to develop both strategic and tactical plans for Indirect category goods and services. In addition, this role will be responsible for determining the category strategy that helps to deliver optimal business value, negotiating with suppliers, tracking orders, and quality assurance. You will work with staff across departments to forecast the needs of the business and make purchase decisions based on demand and fulfilment.

In this role, you will:
- Manage strategic indirect sourcing initiatives which include but not limited to gathering sourcing requirements, vendor screening, preparing and conducting RFx’s, negotiations, managing supplier relationships through development of SLAs and KPIs, and contract development and execution
- Analyze spend and market intelligence data to take internal needs to market and pursue and qualify new suppliers who meet Heliogen requirements
- Process purchase requisitions and update management on status of orders
- Review quotes and secure the most competitive bids
- Analyze purchase requisitions and review for accuracy and completion
- Identify value improvement and costs savings opportunities across spend categories to achieve annual financial targets
- Analyze market trends and provide internal business partners with clear insight into cost drivers, risks, and opportunities
- Manage and drive continuous cost reduction and competitiveness
- Take an active role in developing and supporting efficient standardized req-to-pay processes
- Support implementation of new processes and systems, QA and CSR & sustainability requirements (ESG)
- Resolve supplier performance/capability issues to ensure alignment with internal stakeholder expectations and contractual obligations
What's essential:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, or a related subject and a minimum of 6+ years experience in Purchasing
- In lieu of Degree, a minimum of 12 years experience in Purchasing in Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing or related area
- Previous indirect purchasing experience (Commodities: Capital Equipment, Facility Services, MRO, IT Equipment, HR, and Marketing Services)
- Excellent communicator, ability to lead in an environment of in-direct control, analytical, fact based with an attention to detail
- Strong project management skills – familiar with scope definition, task tracking, stakeholder updates, etc.
- Strong negotiator, able to interpret, analyze, and navigate contractual cost/commercial elements
- Excellent problem solving and data analysis skills and the ability to multi-task
- Customer Service mindset and ability to manage several priorities simultaneously
- Working knowledge of general business practices
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion
- Able to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally
Desirable:
- Working knowledge of Oracle ERP in a purchasing/procurement environment
- Previous experience in rapid growth environment
- CPSM, CPIM, CSCP certification or equivalent
- Project Management Experience
- Experience in the formation, bid, evaluation, award, and administration of indirect purchases up to $5M
