What we are looking for:
As a Product Marketing Manager-Wholesale Markets you will help drive Stem’s ongoing commercial strategy of winning both small- and large-scale clean energy generation projects. You will help focus the Front-of-Meter (FTM) product marketing team’s efforts to expand market share in various energy storage, solar + storage, and other FTM segments by increasing the competitiveness of Stem’s commercial offerings and solutions. You are the expert on the ISO-New England and New York ISO power markets, keeping a constant finger on the pulse of those markets and determining how best to position Stem for success.
You are a doer as well as a highly analytical thinker, who goes beyond the conventional to promote ideas beyond the norm and are very comfortable with complex quantitative analysis and financial modeling.
You will be in charge of various aspects of the commercial launch including: creating the commercial market entry strategy, developing the economic model, working with cross functional stakeholders to address technical and operational requirements, crafting positioning, etc. You will be required to collaborate with internal researchers and data scientists, applying your in-depth background and knowledge of solar PV and battery energy storage solutions, electricity markets, and power systems to perform analysis toward Stem Inc.’s products and services. You will be comfortable working with multiple business functions within Stem, including Sales, Finance, Legal, Product Management, Engineering, Business Development, Policy, and Operations.
Responsibilities:
- Use experience, expertise, and in-depth knowledge of wholesale electricity markets (ISO-NE, NYISO required, PJM and NY VDER preferred) to best position Stem’s core FTM offerings in those markets.
- Serve as the market expert while interacting with Stem’s Front-of-Meter customers / partners to assess product-market fit and identify new opportunities for Stem offering development.
- Gather and analyze market intelligence including market size and competitive landscape.
- Monitor the competitive landscape and develop strategies to differentiate Stem from our competitors.
- Develop differentiated and compelling messaging and positioning for Stem’s offerings.
- Collaborate with Marketing & Communications to develop collateral and content that articulates the value of Stem’s offerings to partners and customers.
- Collaborate with Product Management to influence Stem’s product roadmap and align new Front-of-Meter product releases with market entry strategies.
- Design and own processes and tools that enable partners and the sales team to evaluate storage and solar projects in current and new markets.
- Define the market size and develop go-to-market strategies that maximize Stem’s attainable market share.
- Create, maintain, and run sophisticated pricing and economic models to assess energy storage project economics.
- Conduct quantitative analysis necessary to inform strategic market and product decisions.
- Be an advocate and evangelist by attending conferences, webinars and leveraging your personal brand in social media to promote Stem’s value proposition to customers, partners, and the public.
- Package Stem’s products and services into comprehensive offerings with standardized solution bundles, pricing, revenue & savings models, contract language, and customer proposal collateral.
- Work with Finance and Contracts to assess market risk and define key commercial terms.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in business, engineering, economics, math, or similar subject (or equivalent practical experience)
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in wholesale power markets. Renewable energy experience required.
- Mastery of energy market fundamentals and modeling, specifically at the ISO/RTO level
- 2+ years’ experience in Product Marketing, Product Management or Market Entry a plus
- Expertise in relevant packages available such as Python, SQL, Jupyter, MATLAB, R, SPSS etc. preferred
- Ability to work autonomously with excellent time management skills, focusing on key outcomes amidst competing priorities and tight deadlines
- Ability to think across disciplines and functional expertise
- Ability to embrace ambiguity in a fast-paced environment
Job Location
This role is remote, but will require occasional travel to Stem’s San Francisco, CA headquarters or other Stem office locations.
