Lab Technician (Mechanical)

The Team
The Research and Development Org is the driving force behind SPAN's technology. The team designs and completes a wide range of test setups and experiments, crafting a pathway that will best meet the needs at hand and moving collectively and independently across department constraints. The Eccles Lab facility is solely focused on implementing the vision and practical application of existing and new product testing and development.
The Role
An R&D lab technician is focused on the success of the lab through the smooth operation of equipment and test matrices. The technician is comfortable leading experimental build outs as well as performing maintenance on critical research and product development programs. Success will come from taking up where engineers leave off, working closely with the Lab Manager, and collaborating to provide vital support to the overall development of SPAN. Candidates need to be experienced in fabrication, machine bring-up and process control, and some electronics. A good lab technician is an independent leader, effective manager of time, and proficient in communication within company platforms and peers.
- Provide clean, tidy and safe workshop and laboratories
- Design and implement test fixtures and electrical test setups interpreted from engineer and team requests
- Procure test equipment, tools, and equipment wear and tear items in a timely fashion
- Set up the lab, organize materials and tools, and develop the space to be self-sufficient
- Select tools/maintain asset management and inventory control
- Own the shipping/receiving department including setup, implementation, and redistribution
- Liaise with teams for onsite work days, setting up and removal of workstations, tools and materials
- Comfortable working on own with limited instruction and definite deadlines
About You
Senior level technician looking to expand their knowledge base and help develop new products. Possibly transitioning from field work or contracting to a long term, stable roll at a growing company. A successful lab technician is a social person, who works well with others, takes direction and has competency handling many different types of personalities in a professional and high pressure environment. A strong problem solver who enjoys being wrong while correcting mistakes in a calm but diligent manner.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to operate and maintain a wide variety of hand and power tools, shop tools, metal fabrication and plumbing equipment
- Experience assembling 80/20, strut channel, or similar mechanical systems
- Requires use of warehouse equipment (pallet jacks, forklift, etc) and ability to lift heavy objects no greater than 50 pounds
- Some familiarity with Atlassian Suite (Jira, Confluence)
- Knowledge of heating and cooling systems, appliance repair/installation, and thermal test chambers
- Conflict averse with strong people skills, competency in social situations, often involving people outside of the company.
- +5 years work experience in technical environment with noted promotions
- Familiar with safety standards and certifications, training individuals and groups, and protocol implementation ### Bonus Qualifications

- 10+ years work experience in technical environment as team lead The U.S. base salary range for this position is $79,000 - $116,000 plus benefits, equity and variable compensation for Sales-related roles. This range represents SPAN’s good faith estimate of competitively-priced salary for the role based on national, real-time industry data from companies of a similar growth stage. This range reflects minimum and maximum new hire salaries for the role in San Francisco county. Within the range, individual pay is determined by location and individual factors including relevant skills, experience and education or training. This range correlates to the relative level of the candidate we believe we need for the role and may require an adjustment for candidates of a different level.
