About the Role
The BOB San Diego R&D & Design Team is responsible for developing the analytical capabilities required to support the Company’s near and long-term applied R&D plans. Our facility includes a seedbank and nursery for our algae cultures, a wet lab, space for physical prototyping, and an analytical lab which is in the process of being equipped. The Algae and Analytical Lab Technician I plays an important, interdisciplinary role in two aspects of the Company’s Technology & Innovation Center: (a) the daily care of our special algae, including monitoring, vessel transfers, weighing, and cleaning protocols and (b) inspection and analysis of our algae cultures utilizing various instruments in our analytical lab.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties (Analytical Lab)
- Analytical LabInspect algae samples using a dissecting and/or compound microscope and photograph specimens, according to protocol.
- Data management, analysis, and reporting of the above.
- Use analytical equipment for data analysis of day to day work as well as any R&D experiments Assist with and maintain a detailed inventory of lab equipment and supplies.
- Ability to take samples and other shipments to Fedex
Algae Lab
- Provide optimal care to the algae with minimal supervision.
- Maintain detailed daily records of activities and observations.
- Conduct water exchanges, clean vessels, and conduct precise water chemistry.
- Maintain a clean, biosecure, safe and orderly workspace.
- Assist with research and experiments as needed.
- Provide logistical support for inbound and outbound shipments of Brominata and other routine items shipped to/from BOB’s San Diego Operations
R&D Lab
- Care for and maintain experiments that are being conducted with the R&D Department.
- Maintain detailed daily records of activities and observations.
- Maintain a clean, biosecure, safe and orderly workspace.
Experience and Abilities
- AS in Marine Biology or related science with 1+ year experience in an experimental lab environment
- BS in Marine Biology or related science
- Ability to quantitatively analyze data
- Ability to work independently and to adapt to shifting priorities
- Ability to write clear, well-organized correspondence and reports
- Ability to organize and prioritize work
Physical and Other Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods, primarily in an air conditioned indoor lab with concrete and occasionally wet floors.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 65 pounds.
- Ability to perform fine manipulations with hands and fingers.
- Ability to work safely with and around chemicals such as bleach and acid.
- Good attitude and willingness to help out in other departments and spaces
