Accounting Coordinator

Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) has the fastest, lowest cost path to commercial fusion energy.

CFS collaborates with MIT to leverage decades of research combined with groundbreaking new high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet technology. HTS magnets will enable compact fusion power plants that can be constructed faster and at lower cost. To implement this plan, we are looking to add dedicated people to the team who treat people well, improve our work by adding multifaceted perspectives and new ways of solving problems, have achieved outstanding results through a range of pursuits, and have skills and experience related to this role.

CFS has a need for an Accounting Coordinator to assist with day to day accounting activities including cash reconciliations, expense reports, and journal entries. The successful candidate will be able to adapt quickly within our rapidly evolving organization to help us maintain a timely and accurate financial close process.

This team member will:

- Reconcile cash daily and prepare bank account reconciliations
- Audit expense reports for all team members, comparing details and support submitted with CFS Travel and Expense policy and making an independent judgment on approval/denial of submitted expenses through Expensify (expense management system), resolving issues directly with team members and/or their managers related to non-compliant expense submissions
- Manage Credit Card issuance and limits
- Assist with itemization and bill preparation of Government Grant costs
- Prepare journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations
- Support Accounts Payable department during busy periods
- Other duties and special projects as assigned

The ideal candidate will have most, if not all, of these requirements:

- 1+ year(s) of associate accountant experience, ideally with job costing and working in a multi-project corporate environment
- Demonstrated working knowledge of corporate accounting best practices
- Mid-tier ERP software experience preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business preferred
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and organized
- A problem solver
- An excellent communicator, both written and verbal 
- Be comfortable in a dynamic environment a rapid pace of growth and change, self-directed prioritization, and the ability to wear multiple “hats” on a daily basis
- Passionate about our clean energy future

Additional preferred experience and/or qualifications:

- Experience with Expensify and/or Odoo would be a plus
- Perform activities such as typing or sitting for extended periods of time
- Work in a facility that contains industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics
- Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionally
